Ellie Hayward graduated from the Slade School of Fine Art in 2020 with a BA in Fine Art.

Sculpture and print are both central to her practice and there is a constant overlap between the two processes. Through both mediums Ellie explores the architectural language of space and the theatricality of sculpture.

‘Spindler’ is a piece that uses both sculptural and print process. When making sculpture her interest is less about creating objects and more about creating an experience through which the sculptures intervene and interrupt the architecture of the space. The process of the making is held in the surfaces of the sculptures. Using processes such as casting and printmaking, imagery and forms are repeated and stacked, transforming the work from manageable objects to something which towers over the individual, creating a sense of instability and precariousness.

Over time the prints have become more sculptural and the sculptures more like drawings. It is this confused relationship and continual overlap between the two processes, which is at the forefront of her practice. It is the intersection between the two where Ellie intends her work to be.
